  • Bruno Fernandes scored a cracking goal against Liverpool FC
  • It was the Portuguese magnifico's 50th Premier League goal
  • He is one of the club's highest-scoring midfielders in the EPL

Bruno Fernandes scored his 50th Premier League goal for Manchester United with a brilliant one-time effort from the centre circle in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

He capitalised on an error from young defender Jarell Quansah and lobbed Caiomin Kelleher from way out to draw United level after Luis Diaz's strike put their rivals ahead.

He is on an exclusive list of the club's highest-scoring midfielders in the league, and only three legends score more goals than him.

Sports Brief looks at the top five scoring midfielders for the Red Devils.

Man United's highest-scoring midfielders

1. Ryan Giggs

After coming through the club's academy, the legendary midfielder spent all his career at Old Trafford. The former Wales international played 24 seasons in the first team, scored 108 league goals, and won the title 13 times.

2. Paul Scholes

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Scholes came out of retirement in 2012 to help United win their last title, six months after hanging his boot. Like Giggs, he also spent all of his famous career at Old Trafford. He scored 107 league goals and won 11 titles.

3. David Beckham

Beckham was part of the famous Class of 92, a group of academy stars promoted by Sir Alex Ferguson, who formed the team's core for many years. The English midfielder spent nine years in the first team before leaving for Real Madrid. He netted 62 league goals.

4. Bruno Fernandes

The Portuguese midfielder has been the team's most important player since his arrival in January 2020. The strike against Liverpool was his 50th league goal, and there was no better way and against no other opponents to do it other than their fiercest rival.

Per Opta, at 44.6 yards, it was the second-longest goal at Old Trafford since data began in 2006, behind Wayne Rooney's 49.6-yard strike against West Ham in 2014.

5. Juan Mata

The Spanish magician spent eight years at Manchester after joining from Chelsea in 2014 and scored 34 goals in 196 English top-flight games, four short of the 200 mark. He left Vissel Kobe last year and is currently without a club.

Premier League's best long-range goals

Sports Brief analysed the best Premier League long-range strikes after United captain Fernandes' goal from the centre circle against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

He joins a list of Red Devils stars who have blessed the league with goals from a distance, including Beckham against Wimbledon in 1996 and Rooney in 2014.
