Cristiano Ronaldo endured a forgettable game as his team, Al-Nassr, suffered defeat against rivals Al-Hilal in the semi-finals of the Saudi Super Cup on Monday night.

Heading into the clash with Al-Hilal, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had notched six goals in his preceding three matches, with Al-Nassr displaying strong form as well, Al Jazeera reported.

However, facing the Saudi league leaders proved to be a stark contrast, with the Knight of Najd effectively stifled and neutralised.

Ronaldo red-carded in Saudi Super Cup

In the second half, Al-Hilal found the net twice at the 61st and 72nd minutes to surge ahead 2-0 before Ronaldo received a red card in the 86th minute, per GOAL.

The Portuguese icon was penalised for unsportsmanlike behaviour after elbowing an opponent.

Upon his dismissal, the ex-Manchester United star seemingly taunted the match officials, departing the field with a sarcastic nod and thumbs-up gesture.

Fans' reactions to Ronaldo's antics

Such conduct provoked the frustration of certain fans on social media platform X, who expressed disappointment over the captain of Al-Nassr's display of petulance.

They utilised X to articulate their views on how his actions influenced his team's performance.

What's next for Ronaldo?

Ronaldo is set to face his second suspension of the season, though the duration remains undisclosed at present.

He had previously been suspended for misconduct against Al-Shabab earlier in the year.

Al-Nassr crash out of Saudi Super Cup

Sports Brief recently reported on Ronaldo missing out on another title in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Nassr crashed out of the Saudi Super Cup following Monday's 2-1 loss.

Sadio Mane scored a consolation goal for Al-Nassr in second-half stoppage time after Ronaldo was sent off in the 86th minute.
