Last year, the award was shared between Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile and Cape Town City’s Khanyisa Mayo, GOAL reported, and this year, the award could be shared again.

With the current season winding down, Sports Brief looks at the top scorers in the league.

Top 10 scorers in the DStv Premiership

Lucas Ribeiro Costa – Mamelodi Sundowns

With Shalulile consistently posing a threat in front of goal, Ribeiro was brought in last year as a second striker.

The Brazilian has hit the ground running since arriving and has already notched up 10 goals in 13 games.

With Shalulile dealing with injuries this season, Ribeiro has taken on the attacking mantle and run with it, IOL reported.

Tshegofatso Mabasa – Orlando Pirates

Following his heroics against Lamontville Golden Arrows, Mabasa has jumped to 10 goals this season.

The Orlando Pirates striker scored a hat-trick against Arrows, taking his tally up to four for the club.

He also scored six goals in the colours of Moroka Swallows before making the move to the other Soweto giants.

Khanyisa Mayo – Cape Town City

The 25-year-old enjoyed an impressive spell last season for the Cape side and is continuing that form again this season.

Mayo has scored nine goals in 25 appearances for City and will have a chance to increase his tally against AmaZulu this game week.

The player was linked with moves to Kaizer Chief and Mamelodi Sundowns, but John Comitis recently stated that only one Gauteng side approached them for Mayo’s services, FarPost reported.

Iqraam Rayners - Stellenbosch FC

Rayners is on eight goals for the season, but has also played 20 games.

Last season, Rayners scored nine in the league, and eight represents his second-best showing in his six seasons in the DStv Premiership.

Rayners has been a big part of Stellies racking up an unbeaten run of games, Kick Off reported.

Bradley Grobler – SuperSport United

A former winner of the award, Grobler is back in contention for another.

The SuperSport striker won it in 2021, iDiskiTimes confirmed, and currently has eight goals in 19 games.

Grobler has suffered numerous injuries since winning the award and has struggled to find that form, but he’s always a goalscoring threat when he's injury-free.
