  • Hugo Broos is planning to field a robust Bafana Bafana lineup against Algeria
  • The Belgian experimented with different players in their clash with Andorra
  • Stellenbosch FC striker, Iqraam Rayners, will get a chance to prove himself

In preparation for their upcoming FIFA Series clash against Algeria, Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, has signaled his intent to shift to a more robust lineup after experimenting in their previous encounter against Andorra.

Stellenbosch FC striker, Iqraam Rayners, will be given a chance and is expected to lead the frontline.

The 28-year-old will have an opportunity to impress the manager following Khanyisa Mayo's underwhelming performance in the previous tie.

However, Broos expressed concerns over the absence of key players, including Lyle Foster and Evidence Makgopa.

As reported by Far Post, the 71-year-old discussed plans to talk to the Burnley striker and his coach, Vincent Kompany, in April to chart a way forward. Makgopa, on the other hand, is injured.

Despite experimental introductions in their match against Andorra, Broos acknowledged the need to step up against the North Africans, who are a significantly stricter opponent.

He also pointed out the difference in quality between the two teams, stressing the importance for South Africa to begin converting opportunities into goals.

With Algeria under new management, led by Bosnian-born Swiss coach, Vladimir Petković, Broos plans to deploy most of his frontline players, ensuring a fresh and energetic team for the encounter.

"This has been a problem for several years already in South African football, that we don’t really have the big scorer, even when there are guys who score rather easily in the local competition. You see Mayo with eight goals, Rayners also has something like that, so we’ll see about Iqraam on Tuesday. He will play," Broos explained as quoted by Times Live.

The FIFA Series ties will help Bafana Bafana prepare for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe in June.

Percy Tau missing from Bafana squad

Sports Brief also reported that Al Ahly winger, Percy Tau was omitted from Bafana's squad.

Broos released a 32-man preliminary squad for the international break fixtures this month.

Next up for the 2023 AFCON bronze medalists is their FIFA Series friendly tie with Algeria.
