  • Manchester City defeated Crystal Palace in their Premier League clash on Saturday
  • The defending champs moved up to second place in the league table after the win
  • Kevin De Bruyne starred for City in the victory, scoring his 100th goal for the club

Kevin De Bruyne is ready for the title run-in.

The Belgian midfielder helped Manchester City move up to second place in the Premier League table, scoring twice in their 4-2 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

He made history with that brace, becoming the third player to score 100 goals for the club. He racked up that total in less than eight seasons with City.

Since September 2015, only Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have scored more goals than De Bruyne for Manchester City. Aguero scored 152 goals for City during that period, while Sterling bagged 130 goals for the club, per Centregoals.

De Bruyne stars in win over Palace

City needed De Bruyne's goal-scoring prowess on Saturday after falling behind early against Crystal Palace. Jean Philippe-Mateta opened the scoring for the hosts with a smart finish in the third minute.

It didn't take long for City to draw level, finding the equaliser in the 13th minute. De Bruyne curled in a spectacular shot from the edge of the box to tie the match at 1-1, per Eurosport.

City added three more goals in the second half to boost their title bid. Rico Lewis's deflected strike minutes after the restart gave the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Erling Haaland and De Bruyne then sealed the victory with goals in the 66th and 70th minutes. The latter's goal was a thing of beauty, applying the final touch to a move that was started brilliantly by Jack Grealish down the left flank.

Guardiola names Foden as POTY contender

Sports Brief recently reported on Pep Guardiola's pick for the Player of the Year award.

The Manchester City manager named Phil Foden as a top contender for the individual prize, given his performances this season.

Foden has scored 21 goals in all competitions for City this season.
