The Three Lions were second-best for most parts of the game despite the Selecao missing a host of key players in their ranks.

The South American side capitalised on a defensive error in the second half after a Vinicius Junior effort on goal was saved by Jordan Pickford, only for the rebound to fall kindly to Endrick, who scored his first international goal.

But away from the proceedings on the pitch, a couple stole the show on the stands at halftime.

The boyfriend went down on one knee and withdrew the ring as the crowd cheered them on. The guy was helped by a friend who held out writings of 'Will You Marry Me.'

Away from that romantic moment, Southgate's charges will be looking to bounce back when they face Belgium on Tuesday. Brazil will, meanwhile, face Spain in Santiago Bernabeu.

England coach in confrontation with official

Sports Brief has also reported that one of England's coaches, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, was involved in a confrontation with the fourth official.

Hasselbaink took issue with Lucas Paqueta's incessant challenges on Jude Bellingham that went unpunished, with the West Ham midfielder only getting one yellow card.

The former Chelsea striker followed the official down the tunnel to air out his frustrations.

Kyle Walker injured vs Brazil

In the same game, Kyle Walker was forced off with an injury after only 19 minutes, posing new problems for Pep Guardiola.

The Manchester City boss will be hoping that the right-back's issue isn't serious, with the Citizens facing a run of tricky games after the international break.

They play Arsenal before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League.
