  • Nathan Tella’s agent is unhappy with Super Eagles interim boss Finidi George
  • Tella was an unused substitute in Nigeria’s friendlies against Ghana and Mali
  • Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-0 before losing 2-0 to Mali in March friendly games

Nathan Tella’s agent is furious at Finidi George after the interim Super Eagles coach made no attempt to play the Bayer Leverkusen star in Nigeria’s recent international friendlies.

The 24-year-old right winger was one of 26 players invited for Nigeria’s friendly games against Ghana and Mali but did not get to feature for a single minute in both games after being sidelined by Finidi.

According to Own Goal Nigeria, Tella’s agent was not pleased with the actions of Finidi which he claims has technically ruled the Bayer Leverkusen winger from Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers squad in June.

"No reason was given to him (Tella) by the coach. Not even a word of encouragement after the disappointment. He arrived in the camp with his spirit really high but left felling unwanted. He probably has lost the chance of getting into the squad for the world cup qualifiers in June. He will however keep doing his best."

Tella has made just one appearance for the Super Eagles since joining the team in 2023 and was dropped from the squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Boniface reacts to Tella’s assist

Meanwhile, Tella’s fantastic assist in added time for Bayer Leverkusen in their comeback victory against Hoffenheim still amazes his Super Eagles and club teammate Victor Boniface, Soccernet reports.

Xabi Alonso brought the 24-year-old into the game in the 86th minute and barely two minutes later, made an assist for Patrick Schick to score the winning goal.

Boniface wasted no time in reacting to Tella’s effort with some playful banter on social media.

Tella disappointed with AFCON snub

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Tella was disappointed to miss the AFCON after getting dropped from the Nigeria squad that went on to win the silver medal at the competition.

Prior to the AFCON, the 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen player was on Jose Peseiro's provisional list, but he was eventually dropped from the Super Eagles' final 25-man roster.

Tellas has opened up on the pain of being dropped, disclosing he was fully committed to representing Nigeria at the competition before he was axed from the squad.
