  • Nigeria vs Ghana is gathering momentum as both teams rekindle their rivalry again after two years
  • The Black Stars edged the Super Eagles to the World Cup ticket in 2022, and now they meet in a friendly
  • Kenneth Omeruo has disclosed that any match involving both teams cannot be termed a 'friendly'

Nigerian international Kenneth Omeruo has urged his teammates to go all out when they file out against Ghana on Friday, March 22.

The Super Eagles will engage their arch-rivals, the Black Stars, in an international friendly slated for Marrakech in Morocco.

Both teams will use the match as a tune up leading to the final preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.

This match comes two years after Ghana denied Nigeria from qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup as the Black Stars won the final stage of the qualifying series via the away goals rule.

Fans expect the Super Eagles to go all out for a revenge, but they will be without their striker Victor Osimhen, who is out injured.

Ahead of the showdown, Omeruo stated that any game involving Nigeria and Ghana cannot be branded as a 'friendly'.

He said:

“We have been training and working hard and you know it's not usually a friendly game against Ghana.
"We are ready to come out to play, working with our new coach Finidi George for now, I think he’s been great, so we are looking forward to it.
“Training has been great. It’s good to see the boys again after the AFCON and also to see (Wilfred) Ndidi who was missing and the likes of (Fisayo-Dele) Bashiru and other boys who weren’t at the tournament.”

Omeruo is also impressed with the maiden national team invitation extended to Benjamin Taminu.

Uzoho trains as makeshift center-back

Sports Brief earlier reported that ahead of the friendly match with arch-rivals Ghana, Finidi George, who has been drafted to lead the Super Eagles is trying new tactics.

Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who seems to have conceded his No.1 position to Nwabali, was tried in the center-back position.

Finidi watched with amazement as Uzoho performed brilliantly well in the defensive, just position two days before the all-important fixture.
