Chijioke Mbaoma rose to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League top scorers chart with his 13th goal of the season but the Enyimba striker is trending in Nigeria due to his age.

The 20-year-old forward netted the People’s Elephant’s second in the 5-0 routing of rivals Kano Pillars at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba on Wednesday as Finidi George’s team pushes for another league title.

According to Nigeria Info FM, Enyimba moved to second on the NPFL table with 48 points while Kano Pillars remain seventh with 41 points after suffering their heaviest defeat of the season.

Mbaoma, who was born in 2004, caught the attention of fans across Nigeria after many fans discovered his age and some took to social media to have their opinions aired.

The Enyimba striker has disclosed he is not under pressure to emerge as the league’s top scorer this season as he discloses that winning the title is more important than winning the top scorers award.

How fans reacted to Mboama’s age

Meanwhile, Mbaoma’s age caused a bit of chaos on Nigeria’s social media page with some fans questioning the legitimacy of his age.

“How is this chief 20 years old... We are never beating this age allegations.” @Adebolaolatunji tweeted.

Another fan jokingly played with a math equation to determine the age of the Enyimba striker.

“20 + 20 = 40 years. Smart but complex to understand.” @Mrfizzy_10

Another Nigerian claims she will love to see the Enyimba striker when he turns 30.

“This elderly man is 20 years old?😂I can’t wait to see him when he’s 30 years old.” @temi_rossie_ also tweeted.

Finidi leads Enyimba to victory

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Enyimba FC whitewashed visiting Kano Pillars in a highly-entertaining Nigeria Professional Football League fixture on Wednesday evening, April 3.

The Peoples Elephants scored five un-replied goals to beat the rated Kano Pillars as they keep tabs on league leaders Enugu Rangers.

Finidi George returned to local duties one week after leading the Super Eagles to friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.
