Speaking candidly about his mentorship, Onana expressed gratitude for Van der Sar's guidance during challenging times. He stressed the significance of the legend's experience and wisdom, acknowledging the impact of their ongoing communication.

“He had a great career here, and he’s done a lot of things for Manchester United and for me. I am still in contact with him and very happy to talk to him sometimes, when we can. Talking about him is great because he did a lot for me," Onana told United Focus.

Despite a rocky start, the African shot-stopper has evolved into one of the club's standout performers, with his contributions instrumental to their pursuit of an elusive top-four finish in the Premier League.

Evidencing his impact on the pitch, he has amassed 8 clean sheets in the top flight this season, as reported by the Premier League. Notable performances against Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Luton Town and a crucial FA Cup victory over Nottingham Forest underscore his importance to the club's aspirations.
