  • Ahmed Musa is unimpressed with reports that he deliberately refused Governor Abba's handshake
  • The Super Eagles captain was captured the moment he exchanged pleasantries with the politician
  • Musa instead bowed his head while the governor tried to shake his hands, which left fans divided

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has expressed disappointment in the trending reports suggesting he deliberately refused Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's handshake.

The media space had been awash by insinuations that the former CSKA Moscow star ignored the governor who had stretched his hand as they exchanged pleasantries.

A clip being circulated on social media captured the moment Musa paid a courtesy visit to the governor at the government house.

The 31-year-old was practically squatted while acknowledging the handshake of the deputy governor but chose to bow while greeting the governor of the state.

However, some sections of the media have suggested that the former CSKA Moscow star deliberately ignored the handshake, leaving fans claiming the player 'disrespected' the No.1 citizen of the state.

In his response, Musa stated that a simple cultural act is being blown out of proportion.

He wrote:

"In our Northern culture, the gesture of kneeling, shaking hands etc signifies the highest form of respect.
"This was my intention when I greeted the Deputy Governor in such a manner.
"However, when it came to greeting the Governor, I chose to bow and not shake his hands, honoring him in a way that is deeply rooted in tradition.
"It's unfortunate that amidst all the pressing issues our nation faces – economic hardships, security challenges, religious clashes and more – this seemingly insignificant moment has garnered so much attention.
"What's even more disheartening are the comments questioning my respectfulness, especially from those who don't know me personally."

Musa rewards journalist with Abuja flat

Sports Brief earlier reported that it is joy overflow for sports journalist Joan Iwuchukwu who received the keys to a flat in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, from Super Eagles captain Musa.

In December 2023, Nigerian footballer Musa confirmed that Joan was among four recipients of flats in one of his estates in the Federal Capital Territory.

Barely one month after returning from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the former CSKA Moscow star handed the apartment keys to the writer.
