  • Mohamed Salah will play for Egypt at the Olympic Games
  • The Egyptian scored the winner as Liverpool beat Brighton
  • Salah endured a tough Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has disclosed his desire to represent Egypt at the Olympic Games in Paris in the summer.

The Egypt U23 team qualified for the multi-sport competition after finishing as runners-up at the Africa U23 Cup of Nations last year.

According to the Olympic Games rule, per Foot The Ball, three overage players are allowed to be included in the squad for men's football.

President of the Egyptian Football Association, Gamal Allam, disclosed that Salah has revealed his intentions of being part of the team.

“Mohamed Salah wants to participate with the Olympic team in the Paris 2024 Olympics, and he will be present,” he said, as quoted by 13 Football.

Salah had a difficult Africa Cup of Nations after suffering an injury in the second group game against Ghana, forcing him to pull out of the rest of the competition as Egypt reached the round of 16. They were knocked out of the tournament by DR Congo.

However, the free scoring forward recovered following his return to England and has been in sensational form for the Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Another top star expected to represent his country at the Olympic Games is PSG's Kylian Mbappe despite the Euros in the summer.

Salah closes in on Golden Boot race

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Mohamed Salah closed the gap for the Golden Boot in the English Premier League after scoring Liverpool's winner against Brighton on Sunday.

The Liverpool star and Manchester City forward Erling Haaland are locked in a tight battle, with only two goals separating them at the top of the scoring charts.

Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth, Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Jarrod Bowen of West Ham are all in the hunt for the top scorer award.

Salah leads African scorers in EPL

Sports Brief also reported that Mohamed Salah leads the top scorers chart for African players in the English Premier League this season.

The Liverpool star netted his 16th goal of the season as the Reds defeated Brighton 2-1 on Easter Sunday.

Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson follows Salah with nine goals with Bryan Mbuemo and Antoine Semenyo on seven goals each.
