Expressing his joy, Mokwana reminisced about admiring Khumalo since childhood, with his father sharing stories and showing clips of the legendary player.

“I was happy. Who wouldn’t be happy with Doctor [Khumalo] talking about me like that? Some of these legends, I looked up to them. So it’s brilliant for all of them to talk about me like that. My father used to tell me about him and used to show me some clips before he passed away," he said, as quoted by Far Post.

These matches marked the 24-year-old's official debut under coach Hugo Broos, despite being named a standby player in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad.

Mokwana's performances exhibited his fearless approach, confidently taking on defenders and driving the team forward.

Khumalo stressed the significance of players like him who can challenge defenders directly, highlighting their role in creating scoring opportunities. He expressed optimism about the attacker's potential to become a key asset for the national team in the future.

"Hugo should be proud of himself because he found a diamond now in Mokwana. There is nothing I like more than a wing player who can challenge defenders directly," he said on SABC3, as reported by iDiski Times.

Mokwana stays grounded amidst growing attention

Sports Brief reported that Mokwana remained steadfast despite the escalating attention.

He expressed satisfaction with his performance but stressed his hunger for further achievements.

He also credited senior players for aiding his adjustment to the elevated level of play.
