  • Brilliant Khuzwayo spent six seasons at PSL outfit Kaizer Chiefs
  • At Amakhosi, he felt veteran Itumeleng Khune was more favoured
  • Khuzwayo indicated his departure was influenced by being overlooked

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Brilliant Khuzwayo, has shed light on the reasons for his departure from Amakhosi.

Speaking candidly on Extra Time on Gagasi FM, Khuzwayo expressed his frustrations, indicating that his departure was influenced by a sense of being overlooked in favour of Itumeleng Khune, the club's stalwart goalkeeper.

During his six-season stint at Chiefs, Khuzwayo often played second fiddle, despite what he perceived as noteworthy performances that warranted greater recognition.

Notably, in the 2014/15 league-winning campaign, Khuzwayo made 16 starts, while Khune started only 10 times.

“He [Khune] was the favourite and sometimes there was injustice that happened in terms of him getting the number one, when he didn’t work hard to get number one. One of the downfalls of Chiefs, which is why I left Chiefs. I was like a side chick at Chiefs knowing very well that he is gonna be there,” said the goalkeeper, as quoted by iDiski Times.

In other developments, Chiefs are reportedly finalizing their search for a new head coach, with five potential candidates emerging as frontrunners to succeed interim boss, Cavin Johnson.

Insider sources familiar with the club's deliberations disclosed that the selection process is nearing completion, with an official announcement anticipated before the season's conclusion.

Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi, both with prior experience in coaching roles at the club, stand out as strong candidates. The decision-making criteria will prioritize a coach with tactical expertise that resonates with the club's culture and playing philosophy.

"They are all good, but they are looking for someone who will understand Chiefs' culture and customs and the playing philosophy. But it's as good as done that by the start of preseason, the new coach will be announced," a source told SNL24.

Jose Peseiro interested in Chiefs role

Sports Brief reported that Jose Peseiro expressed interest in the Kaizer Chiefs job.

After steering the Super Eagles to the brink of glory in the 2023 AFCON, the 63-year-old found himself at a crossroads.

Despite his commendable efforts, negotiations with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) hit an impasse over contractual terms.
