  • Liverpool beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 to return to the top of the English Premier League
  • Luis Diaz was denied a brace when his second goal was ruled off for offside in the second half
  • Social media and Jamie Carragher poked fun at Lewis Dunk's lack of a backside after the offside

Every player hates celebrating a goal only for it to be chalked off for offside.

That agony is even worse when the player is offside by the smallest of margins.

Luis Diaz was denied a brace as Lewis Dunk just made sure the Colombian was caught offside.

Liverpool’s Luis Diaz experienced that feeling when he thought he scored the Red’s third goal against Brighton & Hove Albion, only for it to be ruled out.

The goal would have given Jurgen Klopp’s men a two-goal cushion over the Seagulls, but thankfully for them, they still ran out 2-1 winners, The Telegraph reported.

Why was Diaz’s goal offside?

The Colombian latched on to a pass from Mohamed Salah to score, but VAR intervened and ruled it out for offside.

The decision was extremely tight, as Brighton defender Lewis Dunk looked like he was playing the Liverpool attacker on, but VAR’s lines said otherwise.

The defender’s rear end appeared to be level with Diaz, but the Englishman’s lack of junk in the trunk saved him.

Naturally, social media had a field day with the decision, with many commenting on how tight the call was.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also had his say about the offside call, but his choice of words made the whole thing funnier.

@Ibn_Mikhail7:

“Lewis Dunk has a small back side (ass). That was a goal if that was Ivanovic, Hazard or Sterling. #LIVBHA #PremierLeague.”

@SteveRowley:

Did Jamie Carragher really just say, “the backside of Lewis Dunk… is really tight!” 🤣”

@StevenD1977:

“All it would have taken is for Lewis Dunk to have one more Easter egg this morning, and Diaz would have been onside.”

Diaz leaves defender for dead

Sports Brief previously reported how Diaz left a defender for dead while representing Colombia in an international friendly.

The Liverpool star had an impressive outing for his country and notched up a crucial assist as Colombia beat Spain in the friendly game.

It was the 27-year-old’s skill with the ball that got fans talking, as Diaz got the better of Spain’s Daniel Vivian with a trademark run.
