Finidi George is undoubtedly living the dream, as he has seen his coaching career take an upward trajectory.

From having his ability doubted when he was named coach of Nigeria Premier League side, Enyimba FC, to being appointed as an assistant to former coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, and now being in the running himself to be named as the head coach, the 52-year-old has indeed had quite a trajectory since bursting onto the managerial scene.

The former Real Betis star, who was recently in charge of Nigeria's international friendlies against Ghana and Mali, has continued to revel in the moment after he was named interim manager of the national team.

In a recent interview with media outlet, Sports Boom, the former Ajax star expressed his excitement about the appointment and touched on his dream as coach of the Nigerian national team.

Finidi speaks on his Super Eagles dream

During the interview, the interim coach, visibly pleased with his new role, shared his aspirations for the Nigerian team.

Finidi emphasised that if given the coaching role permanently, he would aim to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Super Eagles.

"I would like to emulate Stephen Keshi and win the AFCON. He won it as a player and then as a coach, which is fantastic. I would like to do the same. But the first thing is to qualify."

The 52-year-old’s ambitions are plausible, as the Super Eagles finished as runners-up at the recently concluded tournament in Ivory Coast.

The year 2025 presents Nigeria, and potentially coach Finidi, with another opportunity to go one step further to achieve this AFCON goal.

However, it must be noted that Nigeria still has to overcome the hurdle of qualifying before any dream of winning the tournament can materialise.

Finidi names his ideal Super Eagles team

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Coach Finidi named his ideal Nigerian team.

The former Real Betis star opted for some of his former teammates in the starting line-up.
