  • Victor Ikpeba has tipped Finidi George to become the Super Eagles coach on a permanent basis
  • The Enyimba of Aba manager is currently in charge of the Nigerian national team temporarily
  • Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has also been linked with the vacant position

Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has disclosed that his ex-teammate, Finidi George, will likely get the Super Eagles coaching job on a permanent basis.

Following the expiration of his contract, Jose Peseiro failed to agree on a new deal with the NFF and the Portuguese has since left.

The Nigerian football body has launched a rigorous search for a permanent coach, while Finidi has been drafted to take charge of the squad temporarily.

Following Nigeria's win over arch-rivals Ghana, a number of football enthusiasts are rooting for the former Ajax star for the plum job.

Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho, who left Roma in January is also linked with the job, but Ikpeba says Finidi is looking good for the position. The former Monaco forward said, as per Complete Sports:

“I am happy with what Finidi is doing with the Super Eagles. I am in the system, and I know what he’s doing. Don’t forget that I am in the committee set up to do the right thing.
“We are doing the right thing that’s why we made Findi the interim manager instead of calling for other managers or names to be employed. Instead we said the assistant should take over from Peseiro.
“From what I have seen from the players comments, its looking good for Finidi George. As I speak right now, I think it’s looking good for him. Mind you. I am not the decision making , I am one of the people that will advise the NFF. but it’s looking good for Finidi.”

Finidi hits about his future

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigeria caretaker coach, Finidi George, dropped a huge hint about his future in the Super Eagles set-up ahead of their friendly clash against Mali on Wednesday, March 27.

The 1994 AFCON winner has been named as a potential head coach for the team alongside the likes of Emmanuel Amuneke and Pitso Mosimane.

George was part of Peseiro's backroom staff that led the Super Eagles to their first AFCON final in a decade. Ahead of the match against Mali, George unintentionally spoke about his future.
