  • Thomas Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season
  • Jurgen Klopp has been ruled out of contention for the position
  • The club are not closing the door on rehiring Julian Nagelsmann

Bayern Munich are moving behind the scenes to find their next manager to replace Thomas Tuchel, who will leave the club at the end of the season after an agreement was reached.

The club will only be champions for the 12th consecutive time if something miraculous happens to them or something drastic happens to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

In an interview with Sports Bild, Bayern director of sports Max Eberl has ruled out Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who will leave England after the season, claiming his words in the farewell video make him out of their consideration.

Sports Brief looks at four managers in contention for the job.

Bayern's potential managers

1. Julian Nagelsmann

Nagelsmann was sacked a year ago and replaced with Tuchel. The 35-year-old is the head coach of the German national team at Euro 2024. Per Buli News, board member Jan-Christian Dreesen said, “Never rule anything out in football,” when asked about a possible return.

2. Jose Mourinho

While ruling out Klopp, Eberl admitted that Mourinho is an option after saying the club would also look at available managers. The Special One is looking ahead to his next role after AS Roma sacked him in January. He is linked to other clubs in Europe's top five leagues.

3. Antonio Conte

Per La Repubblica, the Bavarians have contacted Antonio Conte to take over the role ahead of next season, with some reports in England suggesting he is the preferred candidate. The former Chelsea boss would prefer a job in Italy, with Juventus or AC Milan, to be closer to his family.

4. Xabi Alonso

The man set to break Bayern's 11-year hegemonic hold on the German title is one of the top candidates to restore glory to the Allianz Arena. If the former midfielder leaves the Bay Arena, he will likely go to Munich.

Why Mourinho should replace Tuchel

Sports Brief analysed why Mourinho should replace Tuchel at Bayern after an agreement was reached for the former Paris Saint-Germain boss to leave in the summer.

Jose was relieved of his duties at AS Roma in January but has yet to take up a new role after admitting he wants to be careful and not make mistakes when picking his next role.
