  • Elijah Adebayo is ready to represent Nigeria on the international level
  • The Luton Town star was born in London, England, to Nigerian parents
  • The 26-year-old forward missed out on the latest Super Eagles squad

Luton Town striker, Elijah Adebayo, has declared his interest in dumping England for a chance to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The England-born striker was due for a call-up into the Super Eagles setup, but his recent injury ruled him out of selection.

The striker's club teammate, Gabriel Osho, was called up for Nigeria's friendly games against Ghana and Mali but withdrew from the team due to injury.

In a viral video on social media, Adebayo talked about his origin and confessed his desire to play for the Super Eagles, which would make his mother proud.

"I would like to play for Nigeria. It would make my mum happy and make her proud. That's something we've spoken about," he said.

The Luton Town striker also admitted that his mum would be proud if he eventually turned out for the Three Lions, but playing for Nigeria was top of his list.

"Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially." he added.

The 26-year-old was in top form before he was sidelined by injury, and he's scored nine goals in the Premier League so far this season, according to a report by Transfer Markt.

Adebayo would join the likes of Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, and Semi Ajayi if he eventually earned a call up into the Nigerian national team.

Fans shared their thoughts after Adebayo declared his intention to represent Nigeria on social media.

"It’s gonna be difficult considering the number of well doing strikers we have already. Who’s he gonna bench?"

"Trees without roots, will always fall. The same goes for people without roots. Heritage, and the connection to history and tradition it provides, gives a person those roots. You are welcome, Elijah Anuoluwapo Oluwaferanmi Oluwatomi Oluwalana Ayomikulehin Adebayo."

"Meanwhile, some want the NFF to crawl on their bellies and beg Michael Akpovie Olise and Eberechi Eze to come play for Nigeria. Those who want to play will come without stress, simple."
