  • Mohamed Salah broke another record for Liverpool in the Europa League
  • He is the first Liverpool player to score 20 goals in seven straight seasons
  • The Egyptian forward is edging close to the records of two football GOATs

Mohamed Salah made history during Liverpool’s Europa League victory against Sparta Prague on Thursday, March 14, after netting in the Reds' comprehensive 6-1 win against the Czech club.

The Egyptian’s goal was his fourth in Europe’s second-tier competition and his 20th goal this season as the English side booked a quarter-final spot, where they will face Atalanta next.

According to GOAL, Salah, who has now etched his name in Liverpool’s history, became the first Reds player to 20 goals in all competitions for seven straight seasons.

The 31-year-old forward also became the first player to score in five consecutive away games against Manchester United at Old Trafford as Jurgen Klopp’s team suffered a 4-3 agonising defeat in the quarter-finals.

Sports Brief, alongside the Daily Mirror, has looked at how Salah’s new record compares to that of Al Nassr superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi.

Comparing Salah to Ronaldo and Messi

Salah’s feat against Sparta Prague put the Egyptian forward among the Liverpool greats but the 31-year-old is still a bit further behind football legends Ronaldo and Messi in terms of records set.

According to the Daily Mirror, the 31-year-old striker’s feat of 20 goals in seven consecutive seasons is two short of that of Ronaldo, who has scored 20-plus goals in nine consecutive seasons.

Salah also has a long way to go before catching Messi, who has 13 consecutive seasons of 20 goals and 10 assists.

If the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has a great season in the MLS with Inter Miami this year, he might extend his streak to 14 seasons.

Salah sets another incredible record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Salah scored his 13th goal against United, as Liverpool were eliminated from the FA Cup after losing 4-3 in extra time.

The Egyptian attacker became the first player in history to score in five successive away games at Old Trafford, giving Liverpool the lead into the break.

It is Salah's biggest goal total against a single opponent in his career, coming days after scoring his 20th goal for the Reds for a seventh straight term.
