Who is Amad Diallo?

Amad Diallo was born on July 11, 2002) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He moved to Italy with his family when he was a young boy.

He started playing football with Boca Barco and his performances there drew rave reviews. Several Serie A clubs were alerted to his talent as a result.

Diallo joined Atalanta in 2015 and he quickly moved up the ranks there, helping their youth team win a pair of Campionato Primavera 1 titles.

It didn't take long for Diallo to make his senior debut for Atalanta. He created history when he played his first game for the senior team in 2019, scoring a goal in their 7-1 victory over Udinese.

He became the youngest player to score on his Serie A debut (17 years and 109 days). Diallo also was the first player born in 2002 to score a goal in the Italian top flight.

Diallo seals dream move to Man Utd

Manchester United acted fast in landing Diallo, reaching an agreement with the Bergamo club on October 5, 2020, for the player's transfer. The move was not yet final, though, as it was still subject to him passing a medical, getting a work permit, and the club agreeing personal terms with him.

All of those were sorted out, with Diallo sealing his dream move in January 2021. The young midfielder made his first-team debut for Manchester United in the Europa League round of 32 clash with Real Sociedad. He scored his first goal for the Red Devils in the round of 16 against AC Milan.

The club decided to give Diallo loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland for him to get some playing time. He scored thrice in 13 appearances during his stay in Scotland. He helped the Black Cats finish sixth in the Championship and reach the playoffs in the process, scoring 14 goals in 42 appearances.

The 2023-24 season didn't start well for Diallo, who suffered a knee injury during the club's pre-season tour. He returned to United's lineup after a long layoff, coming off the bench in their 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest on New Year's Eve.

Diallo shut down reports that he was signing for Birmingham on loan for the rest of the 2023-24 season, per Sportbible.

That decision has paid dividends for him and United as he played a starring role in their dramatic come-from-behind victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Diallo scored the match-winner near the end of extra time to send the Red Devils into the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Amad's career with Ivory Coast

He made his senior international debut for Ivory Coast against Niger in an Africa Cup of Nations qualification game in March 2021.

Diallo scored his first international goal for Ivory Coast in a friendly match against Burkina Faso. He did so in style, scoring a free kick in the 97th minute to help the Elephants win 2–1 at home.

He was also part of Ivory Coast's team in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He recorded an assist in his Olympic debut against Saudi Arabia.

Diallo wasn't part of the Ivory Coast team that won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. He decided to build up his match fitness after being sidelined for months due to a knee injury.

Diallo's hilarious red card explanation

Sports Brief recently reported on Diallo's red card explanation.

The midfielder was given his marching orders after scoring the match-winner due to him taking his shirt off.

He explained that he forgot the yellow card he received earlier in the match.
