Kaizer Chiefs' interim coach, Cavin Johnson, has addressed queries regarding the fitness of attacking midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Ngcobo has been a regular starter in league matches under Johnson's tenure but has yet to complete 90 minutes in any of his ten appearances this season.

Despite scoring only one goal in the 2023/24 campaign, the 24-year-old has drawn attention for appearing slightly out of shape.

"I don’t think Mshini is overweight, I think he’s fine. He might look overweight, but I can tell you we have people looking at all these things, and none of these players are overweight," Johnson said, as quoted by iDiski Times.

Johnson stressed the subjective nature of assessing weight, saying that while the player may appear heavier, the team closely monitors players' fitness levels through top-notch fitness facilities and measures, ensuring optimal performance.

10-man Chiefs drew 0-0 with Moroka Swallows in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) at FNB Stadium on Saturday, March 2, as reported by Goal.

Struggling to find their rhythm in 2024, Amakhosi are yet to score a goal.

The first half witnessed few noteworthy incidents, despite Chiefs' persistent efforts to score. Ashley du Preez appeared to score in the 30th minute, only for the goal to be disallowed due to offside.

After halftime, Swallows emerged with renewed vigour, with former Orlando Pirates forward Gabadinho Mhango threatening to break the deadlock. Edmilson Dove's tactical foul to deny Mhango a scoring opportunity resulted in a red card.

The match was briefly halted in the 58th minute due to lightning caused by rain, with the visitors dominating proceedings. Play resumed once the weather cleared, but neither side could capitalize on their chances.

Hunt for new Chiefs coach down to 5

Sports Brief reported that Chiefs narrowed their options for a new head coach, with five potential candidates emerging as frontrunners.

Insider sources familiar with the club's decision-making process have disclosed that the selection is almost complete, with an announcement expected before the end of the season.

Only two hail from South Africa - Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi.
