A surge of European stars in an unprecedented summer spree has propelled the Saudi Pro League into the spotlight, setting the stage for the most anticipated football season in the Middle East.

With the arrival of these superstars, the Golden Boot race promises to be an electrifying spectacle for fans throughout the 2023/24 season.

Before the lavish spending, Al-Ittihad forward, Abderrazak Hamdallah, had already been making waves in the league, clinching his third Golden Boot in the past five seasons with 21 goals last term, outshining Al-Nassr duo Ronaldo and Anderson Talisca.

The 32-year-old Moroccan international aims to defend his title as the Kingdom’s top scorer, facing formidable competition.

Former European strikers, including Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema, will showcase their talents in the Middle East.

Throughout the 2023-24 campaign, Sports Brief will track the performances of Saudi Arabia's most prolific goal-scorers.

Saudi Pro League top scorers

1. Cristiano Ronaldo | Al-Nassr | 22 goals

No matter where Ronaldo stands among sporting legends, his impact on the Saudi Pro League is undeniable.

His move to Al-Nassr in December 2022 opened doors for other footballing giants to join. Ronaldo remains a game-changer for Al-Nassr, showcasing his clutch abilities even in the later stages of his career.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner enjoyed a fruitful half-season in Riyadh last year, netting 14 goals. However, the Portuguese star is eager to augment his already extensive collection of personal and team accolades. Notably, he guided the Knights of Najd to their inaugural Arab Club Champions Cup victory recently.

2. Aleksandar Mitrovic | Al-Hilal | 20 goals

The former Fulham striker may lack the illustrious trophy cabinet and UEFA Champions League triumphs of some recent Middle-East acquisitions. However, what sets him apart is his imposing stature and knack for finding the back of the net, often overpowering defenders.

Despite not reaching Champions League heights, Al Hilal's newest addition amassed over 40 goals in England's second tier, providing a relevant comparison for Saudi Pro League defenders at present. Additionally, his 15 Premier League goals last season were no small feat either. The Serbian goal-scorer has hit the ground running, effortlessly finding the net in the Middle East.

3. Anderson Talisca | Al-Nassr | 16 goals

Since joining Al-Nassr from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande in 2021, Anderson Talisca has exhibited remarkable consistency, netting 20 goals in consecutive seasons, per the Mirror.

Despite Mane and Ronaldo dominating headlines this season, the Brazilian has maintained his crucial role in Luis Castro's team's offensive strategy.

4. Georges-Kévin N'Koudou | Damac | 15 goals

Damac FC attracted the 28-year-old winger to the Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window.

N’Koudou faced challenges making an impact in the Premier League with Spurs, but he has found success in his new environment. Following impressive seasons with Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig, N’Koudou is showcasing his sharpness in front of goal for his new club.

5. Abderrazak Hamdallah | Al-Ittihad | 15 goals

Champions Al-Ittihad have had a fantastic beginning to their title defense, and it's not just their new signings making an impact.

Dubbed "The Executioner" for his scoring prowess, Abderrazak Hamdallah, the reigning Saudi Pro League Golden Boot holder with 21 goals last season, is demonstrating his determination to retain his title in the current campaign.

6. Odion Ighalo | Al-Wehda | 12 goals

Since February 2021, Ighalo has been active in Saudi Arabia, initially signing with Al-Shabab before transferring to Al-Hilal, per Ghanaweb.

Throughout his tenure in the Saudi Pro League for both clubs, the Nigerian striker showcased his prowess, tallying an impressive 52 goals in 71 games. This season, he has sustained his impressive form with Al Wehda.

Koulibaly outsmart Ronaldo

Sports Brief earlier reported on Kalidou Koulibaly outsmarting Ronaldo with a clever dribble in Al Hilal's clash with Al Nassr

Koulibaly majestically controlled a long ball from the Al-Nassr half before calmly dribbling the ex-Real Madrid star.
