Premier Soccer League club, Orlando Pirates, are already making efforts to bolster their squad ahead of the 2024/2025 season.

The Buccaneers are set to complete the permanent signing of impressive central-midfielder star, Thalente Mbatha.

Mbatha has been with the club since January, on loan from SuperSport United, but he has now been handed a permanent deal.

The 24-year-old has made an impact at the club, starting against Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs.

He was not in the starting lineup against Kaizer Chiefs but came on as a substitute later in the game.

Soccer Laduma reports that a new deal has been offered to the player. A source said:

"He has only played three games for the club. But the technical team feels he is one of the missing pieces to the midfield puzzle at the club.
"That is why they have started talks with SuperSport United for him to stay beyond the loan deal," the source added.

The source also indicated the Pirates technical team was happy with Mbatha's contributions and performance, meaning they want him to stay instead of returning to Matsatsantsa.

"That’s why they want to keep him for a long time and he has been offered a three-year deal if he stays on from next season."

Mbatha arrived at Orlando Pirates on the January transfer window's deadline day, the same day that Thabiso Lebitso joined from rival PSL side, Chippa United.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Orlando Pirates completed a season double over rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, in the Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Bucs coach, Jose Riveiro, has picked two players he felt performed well in the contest and heaped praise on his team for securing a third win in five games.

Pirates came back from a goal down twice in the derby game, with Chiefs fans upset once again as their team failed to capitalise on their many advantages.
