Pirates had to come back from behind twice in the match, thanks to their superb second-half performance.

Ashley Du Preez gave Amakhosi the lead after six minutes, but Pirates were level in the 24th minute through Monnapule Saleng.

The Glamour Boys retook the lead late in the first half through Du Preez, and the first-half whistle blew with Cavin Johnson's side leading 2-1.

In the second half, the Bucs scored twice to secure the three points. Thabiso Lebitso's stunner levelled proceedings in the 58th minute before Saleng bagged his brace 10 minutes later.

The win propelled Pirates to second spot in the table while Chiefs find themselves seventh.

Riveiro picks best Pirates performers

After the game, Riveiro heaped praise on his team who secured their third win in five games in all competitions. The Spaniard hailed derby debutants, Lebitso and Saleng.

"Both really outstanding performances. Scoring goals in the derby are going straight to the books. So I'm happy for both," via KickOff.
"Thabiso is an excellent guy, working hard to make it possible to play for Pirates. Saleng is doing everything in order to be Saleng again, and so far, it looks like it's coming back," he added.

Riveiro's side returned home with bragging rights and maximum points in the 180th Soweto Derby, while Chiefs fans were left in a state of outrage.

Khumalo blames Johnson

Sports Brief earlier reported on Chiefs legend, Doctor Khumalo, blaming Cavin Johnson for the Amakhosi's defeat in the Soweto Derby.

The South African icon criticised the in-game management, saying the team failed to control the game despite taking the lead twice.
