Jose Mourinho recently pulled off a memorable stunt as he was spotted in Riyadh for the crunch Cup final between Zamalek and Al Ahly.

Only a few weeks ago, the 61-year-old told Rio Ferdinand on a podcast that he did not know what was next for him after getting sacked by AS Roma in January after two and a half years in charge.

But it seems the Portuguese tactician is making good use of his time, and is still involved in football-related activities.

On Friday, March 8, two of Egypt’s biggest clubs Zamalek and Al Ahly met at Al-Awwal Park in Saudi Arabia for the Egypt Cup final.

To the surprise of millions of football fans across the world, the trio of Mourinho, Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario and Roma legend Francesco Totti were present for the opening ceremony.

In fact, it was Mourinho who presented the trophy before kick-off, with Ronaldo and Totti on either side of the former Chelsea boss.

A video shared by Olt Sports on X showed Mourinho strutting his stuff with the trophy in his hands, with Ronaldo Nazario in an Al-Ahly shirt. Totti represented Zamalek as he wore their kit.

After setting down the trophy, the trio proceeded to exchange handshakes with all the players before the start of the game.

About the Cairo derby

In the build-up to the Cup final, chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority Turki Al-Sheikh hinted at Jose Mourinho’s involvement in the game.

Mourinho was scheduled to analyse the match from the studio, according to Kingfut. The game is taking place in Riyadh as part of the Riyadh Season festivities.

Al-Sheikh had previously announced the winner of the Cup final would pocket a whopping $500,000.

“There are special preparations for Al-Awwal Park Stadium, which will host the final match, and there will be a pre-match ceremony with a major star, as well as extensive celebrations with the winning team after the match," he said in late February.
“We have decided that the winner will receive $500,000, $150,000 for the runner-up, and $50,000 for the best player.

How the final went

As far as the game was concerned, Ah Ahly were crowned the Egypt Cup champions after a 2-0 win over Zamalek.

After a goalless first half, the Egyptian giants scored two late goals from Emam Ashour and Magdy Afsha in the 84th and fourth minute of added time respectively.

The final lived up to its hype, as the stadium was graced by more than 29000 fans.
