  • Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, has come under heavy criticism in recent weeks
  • A section of fans called for his sacking after the derby loss against Man City on Sunday
  • However, stats show the former Ajax boss has a better record than some predecessors

Erik ten Hag took charge of his 100th Manchester United game on Sunday, March 3.

However, that landmark fixture did not go according to plan, with United registering a 3-1 humiliating defeat away at the Etihad Stadium.

Phil Foden was the man of the moment during the Manchester derby, with the Englishman netting a brace to steer his side to victory.

The defeat sparked anger and criticism from a section of United fans, with some calling for the sacking of the Dutchman.

Ten Hag enjoyed a bright start to life in his debut season in charge of United last term, including helping them win the Carabao Cup.

However, the former Ajax boss is already facing the daunting task of steering the Red Devils to a top-four finish, with the side currently 11 points adrift of the final Champions League spot.

With some quarters demanding his sacking, stats show that the 52-year-old has a better record than his predecessors after 100 games.

How ten Hag compares to Man United predecessors

According to stats crunched by Planet Football, ten Hag has a superior win rate than two of United's three previous permanent managers.

Only Jose Mourinho has a better record than the Dutchman, who beats the likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Louis van Gaal.

Ten Hag boasts a 59% win rate since taking charge at Old Trafford, with a big chunk of the games he won coming in his debut season.

On his part, Mourinho ranks top with a 60% win rate during his spell with the Red Devils.

His stint was so successful that he won three trophies for the club, including the Europa League and the Community Shield. Despite his otherwise impressive tenure, the veteran Portuguese boss was sent packing in 2018, per ESPN.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer had a 56% win rate after 100 games in charge.

The Norwegian initially took charge on an interim basis before he landed the role permanently. He went on to manage United for three years before he was shown the door.

Van Gaal, meanwhile, had a 52% win rate after a century of games at the helm of affairs at Old Trafford. The Dutchman was appointed United boss in the summer of 2014 and spent two years there before he was sacked.

Ten Hag confident of keeping United job

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Man United boss, Erik ten Hag, expressing confidence in keeping his job beyond this season.

The Dutch manager was appointed as the Red Devils helm in April 2022 and is currently in his second season with the club.
