  • Mykhailo Mudryk marked his return to the Chelsea lineup with a goal
  • He scored Chelsea's second goal in the 3-2 FA Cup win over Leeds
  • Mudryk explained the purpose behind his goal celebration last night

Mykhailo Mudryk was one of Chelsea's goalscorers in their 3-2 win over Leeds United in the FA Cup fifth round, and he unusually celebrated his strike.

The Blues came from a losing and drawing position to secure a late win and progress to the quarter-final, where they will play Championship leaders Leicester City.

Nicolas Jackson and Mudryk scored to cancel out Mateo Joseph’s opener. The forward scored again, and academy star Conor Gallagher rescued his team with a late winner.

Per Chelsea's pre-match analysis, it was the first meeting between the two sides in the cup since the famous 1970 FA Cup final, which the Londoners won 1-0.

Mudryk explains goal celebration

The former Shakhtar Donetsk star was handed a rare start and was deployed in the number 10 role, which helped him deliver one of his best performances for the team.

His goal was from a right angle after Raheem Sterling's cutback, and he celebrated by pointing to his wrist as if he were telling his teammates the time. He explained the celebration on his Instagram page.

“Human clock - is always in a rush. God's clock - is always on time,” he wrote.

The winger has endured a difficult time since his £62 million move to Stamford Bridge in January 2023. In the past game weeks, fans claimed he had been unfairly treated by Mauricio Pochettino, who praised him after the performance.

“Mudryk has an amazing talent, but he has to play football. You need to put your talent in the team. For that, you need time. It’s not only Mudryk. You know very well at this level, you need to work with and without the ball,” he told ITV Football.

Up next for the Blues is a London derby against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, where the 23-year-old will hope his performance is rewarded with another start.

Mudryk’s reaction to failed Arsenal move

Sports Brief reported on how Mudryk reacted to his failed Arsenal move while going to the airport to complete the transfer to rivals Chelsea, who hijacked the deal.

He has not hit the ground running since he moved to the blue side of London but scored a worldie against the Gunners in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.
