Sassuolo had taken the lead through Uros Racic in the 17th minute before Amir Rrahmani equalised in the 29th minute.

His first goal came from a brilliant link-up play. Giovanni Di Lorenzo found himself in acres of space on the right-hand side before passing it to Matteo Politano.

The forward cut the ball back to Osimhen, who finished comfortably to give Napoli a 2-1 lead, per AP.

His second of the night was thanks to a misplaced pass from the hosts. Politano set up the Nigerian who finished past Andrea Consigli.

His third of the night came from another Sassuolo mistake again.

Osimhen matched Maradona's record

After his hat-trick, the African Footballer of the Year took his tally in the Serie A to 11 and 13 in all competitions.

The Nigeria striker has now scored at least 10 Serie A goals in four straight seasons. Since joining Napoli in 2020 from Lille, Osimhen has scored 10, 14, 26, and 11 goals in the last four Serie A seasons, respectively.

Osimhen joins Diego Maradona (1984-85 to 1987-88) and Attila Sallustro (1929-30 to 1932-33) on that list, as Sports Brief reported earlier.

The Super Eagles star has now scored 69 goals for the Italian giants in 121 matches. 61 of those goals have come in the Serie A.

Osimhen joins Haaland, Mbappe in exclusive club

Sports Brief, in a previous report, stated Napoli star, Osimhen, had joined Mbappe and Haaland in an exclusive UEFA Champions League goal club.

The Nigerian found the back of the net in the Partenopei’s draw against La Blaugrana. He is attempting to defend the Serie A Golden Boot he won last season.
