Robert Lewandowski put the away side ahead early in the second half, but the Super Eagles striker bullied Inigo Martinez off the ball and equalised for the home team.

It was the first game under Francesco Calzona, the Italian Serie A champion’s third manager this season after the exits of Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzari.

Napoli ball boys chant Osimhen's name

It is a common practice in Italian stadiums for the announcer to pronounce a player's first name while the fans in their numbers will loudly cheer the last name.

Per a video on Tiktok by Social Matchday, the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona fans were chanting the Nigerian striker's name after the game.

Three ball boys behind the Napoli goal embraced each other, bent their heads at the call of ‘Victor’ and threw their hands up in joy to join the stadium chanting ‘Osimhen’.

The gesture underlines the importance of the 25-year-old to the Neapolitans and their love for the reigning African Footballer of the Year.

Per Team Talk, he is set to leave the club in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain have joined Chelsea in the race for his signature as they look to replace Kylian Mbappe, who will leave when his contract expires in June.

Osimhen overlooked by CAF
