Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has promised to repay the support shown to him by Chippa United owner Siviwe Mpengesi throughout the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mpengesi irked many South Africans after he declared his support for Nigeria before the semi-final clash against Bafana Bafana, which the Super Eagles went ahead to win via penalties with Nwabali saving two spot-kicks.

According to Sowetan Live, the 27-year-old, on his return to Chippa United after taking a break following the conclusion of the AFCON, disclosed that he would love to remain at the club for at least two more seasons.

“The chairman gave me a lot of reasons to work hard at Afcon. He was sending me a lot of messages, even wishing me well ahead of his own country... that was something I didn’t believe. I really appreciate him, and I owe him a lot.
“A lot of people say, ‘ahh Stanley, you must leave Chippa’, but I wish to work for him for two more years.”

Nwabali was one of the stars of the Super Eagles team at the AFCON as the goalkeeper fought his way to the hearts of the fans with his superb performances for Nigeria at the competition.

What’s next for Stanley Nwabali?

Following his return to Chippa United, Nwabali is expected to resume his duties as first-choice of the South African club as they prepare for their next fixture in the Nedbank Cup.

According to GOAL, Chippa reached the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup, where they will take on FC Ravens, as dates and venues are still to be confirmed by the PSL.

Kaizer Chiefs and Union SG of Belgium are two clubs that have been credited with an interest in Nwabali, although no concrete offer has been submitted to Chippa United for the Super Eagles goalkeeper.

Nwabali gets hero’s welcome at Chippa

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chippa United gave Nwabali a heroic welcome to celebrate his wonderful performances for the Super Eagles at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

The 27-year-old goalie was one of the best players at the tournament and contributed to Nigeria's impressive run in the final.
