  • The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations was a tournament laced with a flurry of breakout stars
  • Stanley Nwabali was among the numerous who made a name for himself at the tournament
  • Sports Brief looks at three possible transfer destinations for the goalkeeper, as interest continues

Stanley Nwabali continues to attract attention from numerous clubs following his outstanding performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

The Chippa United goalkeeper stands out as one of the breakout stars of the tournament.

His impressive displays have captured the interest of clubs both on the continent and beyond, all of whom were impressed by his AFCON performance.

According to a report from SNL24, Nwabali's agent, Mohammed Lawal, has confirmed interest from DSTV Premiership giants, Kaizer Chiefs. However, it seems that interest in the former Enyimba shot-stopper extends far beyond Africa.

As discussions swirl around the possibility of Nwabali leaving Chippa United in the upcoming summer transfer window, Sports Brief examines three potential destinations for the Nigerian goalkeeper.

Three possible destinations for Nwabali

Kaizer Chiefs

Joining the Amakhosi presents a perfect opportunity for the 27-year-old to further his ascent in South African football. The struggling Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants could benefit from the services of a reliable goalkeeper as current keeper, Itumeleng Khune, nears the end of his career. Cavin Johnson’s side is on the rise after a shaky start to the season, and acquiring Nwabali, currently valued at ₤2 million, could be a smart move for the PSL club.

French Ligue 1

The French league presents an enticing option for Nwabali, offering him the opportunity to play in one of Europe's best leagues.

The technical proficiency required to thrive in any club in Ligue 1 could appeal to the Chippa United shot-stopper, who has always expressed his desire to compete on the grandest stages.

Playing in Ligue 1 would also provide Nwabali with tactical sophistication, an aspect of his game that, if mastered, could elevate him to global elite status.

Furthermore, being exposed to French football culture and receiving top-tier coaching would undoubtedly enhance his development as a goalkeeper.

The Saudi Pro League

A move to Saudi Arabia presents a less conventional but highly lucrative option for Nwabali.

In recent years, the Saudi Professional League (SPL) has attracted elite football stars from around the world, and Nwabali could be joining the ranks of teams sponsored by the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The competitive salaries and the increasingly attractive football in the Middle East could be key factors for Nwabali in joining an elite club in Saudi Arabia.

Why Nigeria must retain Jose Peseiro

Sports Brief in another report discussed reasons why the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), must retain the services of Jose Peseiro.

The 63-year-old led Nigeria to their first AFCON final in 11 years. Reports of the former Sporting CP gaffer being linked with a move to the Algerian national team have emerged.
