  • Chelsea lost the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool with a late goal
  • Virgil van Dijk won it for the Reds with a 118th-minute header
  • Veteran defender, Thiago Silva, had a message for the Blues

Chelsea fell short of victory in the 2024 Carabao Cup final against Liverpool yesterday at Wembley Stadium. Despite this disappointment, veteran defender, Thiago Silva, had a message for his teammates.

The Blues were beaten by a Reds side that relied on many academy stars due to injury, with the trophy coming thanks to a 118th-minute header from captain, Virgil van Dijk.

Per Squawka, the Londoners became the first English club to lose six consecutive domestic finals, losing every one at Wembley since 2019: three times each in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

Pundit and Manchester United legend, Gary Neville, referred to Mauricio Pochettino’s team as a '£1 billion bottle job' in reference to Todd Boehly’s transfer spending since becoming owner.

Both teams had a depleted squad yesterday, but the winners had more impactful players missing, including Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alisson Becker, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Silva, who failed a late fitness test and was left out of the Blues squad, would be disappointed with the loss but expressed a different thought on social media.

Expectedly, the post received mixed reactions, with some fans slamming him as there was nothing to be proud of after a loss, while a few echoed his opinion that the team would be back.

The veteran defender, at Wembley to watch the game, was seen on the pitch after the loss to console his dejected teammates, particularly Argentina midfielder, Enzo Fernandez.

The Brazilian will be out of contract in the summer and is widely expected to leave the club after four seasons, having joined from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.

Belle Silva apologises for viral tweet

Sports Brief also reported on Belle Silva apologising for her post suggesting the club sacks Pochettino after the Blues' disappointing 4-2 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge.

The wife of Chelsea star, Thiago Silva, went viral for saying the club needed to make a change, and the earlier, the better. The manager was displeased and spoke to the player afterwards.
