  • His days in Paris are numbered as he inches close to Madrid

Antoine Griezmann has divulged his plans for when Kylian Mbappe eventually joins Real Madrid in the summer.

Mbappe is widely expected to fulfil his long-held desire to move to the Spanish capital when his contract with PSG expires at the end of the 2023–24 season.

The 25-year-old forward, a perennial target for the Spanish giants, came close to joining them two seasons ago but opted to extend his stay with PSG instead.

Recent reports suggest Kylian has informed PSG of his intention to leave in June, with an agreement reportedly in place for him to join Real Madrid for the 2024–25 campaign, per GOAL.

Griezmann reveals Mbappe plans

Griezmann, who currently plays for Atletico Madrid, expressed his anticipation of facing Mbappe in derby matches once the latter joins Real.

"Mbappé? He’d be very welcome in Spain," the Atletico Madrid star told Le Monde, as quoted by the Daily Post.
“I’d be very happy to play derbies against him.”

As Antoine extends a welcoming hand to his compatriot ahead of his expected move to Spain, they will have to set aside their camaraderie when they meet on opposite sides in the Madrid derby.

Griezmann will represent the Rojiblancos, while the France captain, Mbappe, will don the Los Blancos outfit.

Mbappe booed by PSG fans

Meanwhile, Mbappe experienced being booed by PSG fans during a Ligue 1 match on Sunday, February 25, as reported by Sports Brief.

His return to action for PSG against Rennes marked his first game since the news of his impending departure broke, with coach Luis Enrique selecting him for the starting lineup.

However, Mbappe's performance fell below his usual standards, and as the match drew to a close, he was substituted for Goncalo Ramos.

To his surprise, the French captain was greeted with jeers from the fans as he left the field, despite his significant contributions to the club since joining from Monaco seven years ago.

Why Barcelona didn't sign Mbappe

Sports Brief also reported that the current captain of France was considered a feasible choice for Barcelona following the departure of Neymar to PSG in 2017.

At that time, Mbappe, who was still playing for AS Monaco, was reportedly interested in the move as well.

Despite mutual interest, the transfer never came to fruition, as Barca ultimately decided to acquire Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund, viewing him as a more viable option.
