  • Kaizer Chiefs boasts of some of the highest earners in South Africa's Premier Soccer League
  • With seven months left on his contract, the suspended Itumeleng Khune earns decent wages
  • The AmaKhosi's impressive midfielder, Keagan Dolly, is also among their highest-paid players

Despite being on suspension, legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is one of the highest earners at Premier Soccer League club, Kaizer Chiefs.

The 36-year-old was stripped of his captaincy in December after reportedly arriving for training while under the influence of alcohol.

Chiefs immediately launched an investigation into alleged disciplinary transgressions, and his situation remains uncertain despite being in the final seven months of his contract.

However, the cloud over his future at the club has not affected his pay as he reportedly receives a salary of R480,000 (over $25,000).

AmaKhosi remains the destination for several players who are seeking to earn decent money in South African football.

According to The South African, Keagan Dolly, who rakes in a salary of R1.4 million (about $73,983.76), is the highest-paid player at the club.

Khune still on suspension

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs' interim coach, Cavin Johnson, has provided an update on the suspension of veteran goalkeeper, Khune.

The shot-stopper's suspension stems from when he reportedly arrived at training in December 2023 while under the influence of alcohol.

Questions from fans arose after Khune was not featured in the AmaKhosi's goalless DStv Premiership draw with Royal AM on February 18.

When Okocha showed love for AmaKhosi

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigerian football legend, Jay Jay Okocha, expressed his love for Kaizer Chiefs by holding up the club's sign.

The mercurial midfielder was on assignment for CAF at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where Nigeria finished as the runners-up.

South African legend, Siphiwe Tshabalala, was among the legends who graced the tournament with his presence and was spotted with Okocha.
