  • Harry Kane made history in Bayern Munich's 3-2 loss to VfL Bochum on Sunday
  • The Englishman broke Erling Haaland's Bundesliga scoring record in the loss
  • He became the quickest player to reach 25 goals in the German top flight

Harry Kane's first season with Bayern Munich hasn't gone according to plan.

The Bavarian giants are in danger of going trophyless for the first time since the 2011-12 season following a string of poor results.

Kane is trying his hardest to prevent that from happening, with the Englishman breaking Erling Haaland's Bundesliga scoring record in the loss to VfL Bochum.

The Bayern Munich forward became the quickest player in the German top flight to reach 25 goals. He needed only 22 games to reach that milestone, beating the previous record held by Erling Haaland.

The Manchester City star needed 25 matches to reach the 25-goal mark, a feat he achieved while he was still playing for Borussia Dortmund.

How Kane broke Haaland's record

Kane accomplished the feat in the 87th minute of the match against VfL Bochum, scoring a tap-in goal, per Reuters. His strike wasn't enough for Bayern, who suffered their third straight loss in all competitions.

Kane has been on fire for Bayern this season, recording hat-tricks against VfL Bochum, Darmstadt 98, and Borussia Dortmund. He also nabbed braces against FC Augsburg, Heidenheim, and VfB Stuttgart.

Haaland's scoring record with Dortmund

Haaland previously held the mark, setting the record with German club Borussia Dortmund.

He started scoring goals for them in the 2019-20 season, with Haaland joining the club after the winter break. He started his Bundesliga career with a bang, nabbing a hat-trick against FC Augsburg.

Haaland finished the 2019-20 season with 13 goals in 15 matches.

He picked up right where he left off in the 2020-21 season, scoring 12 goals in 10 matches to reach the 25-goal milestone.

He accomplished the feat in the game against RB Leipzig, scoring twice in that encounter.

Bayern Munich's last trophyless season

Sports Brief recently reported on Bayern Munich's last trophyless season.

That happened in their 2011-12 campaign.

They finished second behind Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal and lost to Chelsea in the Champions League final that season.
