Top scorer at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Emilio Nsue, may see his international career come to a premature end just days after the tournament wrapped up.

The Equatorial Guinea captain and his teammate, Iban Edu, have been expelled from the national team until further notice.

The duo are reported to have been involved in an 'act of indiscipline', leading to the intervention of Ivorian police.

A statement released by the country's football governing body, FeGuiFut, has indicated the duo would not be part of the team until the matter is resolved.

"The FEGUIFUT takes the first measures after the CAN COSTA D'IVOIRE. These are reactions that emerged during the first Board that met recently at the headquarters of the Equatoguinean Football Federation," the statement on the official website read.

The statement was confirmed to be a reaction to the actions of Nsue and Edu.

"In the press release signed by the Secretary General of the National Football House, Juan Antonio Nguema MEÑE, the reasons that have led the Board, led by Venancio Tomas Ndong MICHA, to impose forcefulness on the Nazalang men's, women's and football team are explained."

Nsue and Edu played a pivotal role as the Nzalang Nacional reached the Round of 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they lost to Guinea.

The Spain-based forward, who is also captain of the national team, finished the tournament with five goals and won the Golden Boot, as reported by CAF Online.
