  • Lionel Messi appeared in an ad for Michelob Ultra during Super Bowl 58 on Sunday night
  • The Inter Miami star was seen in the advert with Dan Marino and TV character Ted Lasso
  • Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in overtime

Lionel Messi became Public Enemy No. 1 in Hong Kong and China last week after he didn't play in Inter Miami's exhibition match.

He remains as popular as ever in the United States, however, with the Argentine star appearing in an ad for Michelob Ultra during Super Bowl 58 on Sunday.

The beer brand took advantage of the football icon's popularity in the USA, casting him in its latest commercial for one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the Super Bowl.

Messi appears in star-studded Michelob ad

The ad was packed with famous people as Messi was joined by Jason Sudeikis, the actor who plays the TV character Ted Lasso, and legendary Miami Dolphins quarterback, Dan Marino, per Sporting News.

The ad starts with the Inter Miami forward ordering a beer. The bartender informed the soccer legend that he would have to wait for his Michelob Ultra as the drink wasn't available at that time.

While waiting for his beer, the soccer star kills the time with a ball that happens to come his way. He dazzled with his dribbling skills before kicking the ball to Marino, who was in a boat.

The quarterback threw the ball back to Messi. Before he could hit the ball for a goal attempt, the bartender called him over to say that his order was ready.

Messi opted to go for the cold beer. He passed the ball instead to a bystander, who scored a bicycle kick goal.

Mahomes leads Chiefs to victory

The game itself lived up to the hype, with the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.

Mahomes led the Chiefs to a dramatic 25-22 victory. He threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in the dying seconds of overtime to seal the Super Bowl win, per USA Today.

Ivory Coast are AFCON champions again

The Chiefs weren't the only team that won a major title on Sunday.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations also came to a close, with Ivory Coast winning the title in front of their home fans.

Sebastian Haller starred for the Elephants in the final, scoring the match-winner in the 81st minute, per Sports Brief.
