Ivory Coast are on course to pocket a huge payout following their triumph in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Elephants stunned favourites Nigeria in the tournament's final to cart home the trophy on Sunday night.

The hosts came from a goal down to see off the Super Eagles, with Sebastian Haller the hero with a late winner.

Nigeria looked on course to win the tie after taking the lead in the first half courtesy of skipper William Troost-Ekong, only for Ivory Coast to stage a dramatic comeback after the break.

Former Barcelona star Franck Kessie inspired the comeback, with the forward drawing his side level in the 62nd minute before Haller netted the winner with nine minutes left on the clock.

How much will Ivory Coast earn?

According to BBC, Ivory Coast will pocket an eyewatering $7 million as prize money following their victory.

This is a 40 per cent increment from the $5.5 million that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) paid out to Senegal when they won the last edition of the tournament.

Meanwhile, runners-up Nigeria will be earning $4 million, with South Africa and DR Congo set to bank $2.5 million each for reaching the semi-finals.

South Africa failed to reach the final after losing the semis to Nigeria, with DR Congo's impressive journey brought to a halt by Ivory Coast in the other semi.

Elsewhere, all the quarter-finalists will be taking home $1.3 million, per a CAF statement.

Peseiro's record in finals

Sports Brief earlier analysed Nigeria head coach Peseiro's record in the finals during his managerial career ahead of the Nigeria vs Ivory Coast final.

The Portuguese coach has been a football coach since the early 90s and has coached some of the biggest clubs in Portugal, including Porto and Sporting CP.

The 63-year-old doesn't have a good record in finals.
