  • All roads lead to the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, for AFCON 2023 final

Ahead of the final match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the head coach of the Nigerian team, Jose Peseiro, has admitted that it is not easy to win the tournament.

Nigeria take on hosts Ivory Coast in the final of the continental showpiece billed for the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, on Sunday, February 12.

The Eagles are on a quest for a fourth title, and Peseiro admitted that it would be a herculean task.

Speaking with journalists at the pre-match presser inside Palais de la culture d'Abidjan, Perseiro practically pleaded with his players to win the title.

Nigeria last won the AFCON tournament in 2013, having earlier won it in 1980 and 1994, despite being the country with the most semi-final appearances.

Peseiro said:

"We need to fight against the host. This is a great opportunity, and we don't know when the country will reach this stage again. Take this opportunity; it's not easy to win AFCON.
"Take this opportunity and get this Cup because it is important for us and for the Nigerian people."

The tactician also admitted that the home crowd would come all out to support the Elephants but insisted that such an atmosphere is good for African football.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe has confirmed that the president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, will personally be in the stands for the encounter.

Omeruo expects tough encounter

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigerian defender, Kenneth Omeruo, shared his thoughts on the Super Eagles beating Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan.

The three-time African champions sealed a place in the final after defeating South Africa's Bafana Bafana in the semi-final on Wednesday (February 7).

"Even when we beat them in the group stage, we knew they were a good team; we just have to keep to our game plan, and we would win."
