  • Nigeria are geering up for their AFCON 2023 final showdown against Ivory Coast
  • The two West African nations would be facing for the second time in the competition
  • A Super Eagles player has sent a message across to Nigerians ahead of the game

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are preparing for their last game in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as they will take on the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the competition's final.

The 2013 AFCON champions booked a place in the final after facing Cameroon's Indomitable Lions, Angola's Palancas Negras, and South Africa's Bafana Bafana in the knockout stages.

Jose Peseiro's side would be facing Emerse Fae's Ivory Coast for the second time in the tournament after meeting in the group stage.

In an exclusive interview with Sports Brief, Kenneth Omeruo sent a message to Nigerians about bringing the AFCON trophy home ahead of the final against Ivory Coast on Sunday.

"We are there [in the finals] now, you know, we might as well take the cup," he said
"I have not said anything about taking the cup from the start; I've always said we would take it one game at a time. I think this is the time to go all out to win."

The former Middlesbrough defender also speaks on history being kind to him and Ahmed Musa, as they are the only members of the squad to have won the title in 2013.

"I hope [the history kind to me and Musa], and I really pray that we win," he added.
"Not just for Ahmed and me, but also for the young guys who train, work, day in and day out; even when the results were not going our way, the bad comments on Instagram, we kept it aside, and we worked hard up to this point, and we're glad that we have Nigerians on our side again."

Tinubu to attend AFCON 2023 final

Sports Brief earlier reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be in Abidjan to watch the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final between Nigeria and Ivory Coast.

On Sunday, February 11, the 34th edition of the continental championship is scheduled to conclude with a game at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan.

Reports also confirmed that at least 22 state governors from the West African country are said to be preparing to watch the Super Eagles battle the Elephants for the trophy.
