An unlikely star has emerged in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Côte d'Ivoire.

A cat named 'Nimbus Pronos' online is gaining widespread attention for its accurate predictions.

The AFCON 2023 tournament has witnessed surprising outcomes, with formidable teams facing early exits.

Notable examples include Equatorial Guinea's stunning 4-0 victory over hosts Ivory Coast and Algeria's unexpected elimination after a 1-0 loss to Mauritania.

The cat’s method is as simple as it is captivating – the owner places two bowls labelled with team flags in front of it, and the bowl it chooses to eat from signifies the winner of the match.

While not infallible, Nimbus Pronos has made some remarkable predictions, including Ivory Coast's recent triumph over defending champions Senegal, a match decided by penalty kicks on Monday, January 29. The game unfolded as anticipated, with both teams finishing tied at one-all in regular time, leading to a thrilling penalty shootout, as reported by the BBC.

Another noteworthy prediction was Egypt's exit from the tournament after a penalty shootout loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, January 28. Despite missing the injured talisman Mohamed Salah, Egypt succumbed to an 8-7 defeat in the shootout.

The cat also foresaw Nigeria's convincing victory over arch-rivals Cameroon. Ademola Lookman scored twice to secure the Super Eagles' spot in the quarter-finals, as reported by CAF Online.

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s January 30, AFCON 2023 round of 16 fixtures, Nimbus has predicted World Cup semi-finalists Morocco to prevail over South Africa and foresees Mali overcoming Burkina Faso.

The clashes at the Laurent Pokou Stadium and the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium are expected to deliver closely contested encounters.

The cat's uncanny ability to predict match outcomes has added extra excitement to the AFCON tournament, captivating fans and sparking discussions about its mystical prowess.

Supercomputer discloses new AFCON 2023 favourite after Senegal’s elimination

Sports Brief reported when Opta Supercomputer released an updated list of favourites to win the AFCON 2023 after Senegal’s elimination.

The computer named the Lions of Teranga the overwhelming favourite to win the title days before the competition started.

Hosts Ivory Coast was given a 12.1% chance to win the trophy on home soil, but their campaign was at risk of crumbling after an embarrassing group stage loss.
