  • Black Stars ace Andre Ayew scored a fine brace for Le Havre
  • The Ghana captain returned to France after the AFCON exit
  • The four-time champions were eliminated at the group stage

Andre Ayew put behind him a disastrous Africa Cup of Nations to score a late brace and earn Le Havre a point in the six-goal thriller against Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

The Black Stars captain rejoined his club on Saturday and was named in the squad for the game 24 hours later.

The veteran forward started on the bench and made the difference after coming on to replace Daler Kuzyaev with 20 minutes remaining.

Ayew first headed home to level with five minutes remaining but the host restored their lead two minutes into injury time.

The 34-year-old then replied two minutes later with a lovely acrobatic kick goal to ensure Le Havre left the Stade du Moustoir with a point.

The goals were his first and second for the French outfit since joining the club late last year after seven months without a team.

Meanwhile, the ex-Swansea City man has been receiving huge backlash at home following the Black Stars' early AFCON elimination.

Ayew made two appearances at the tournament and equalled Rigobert Song's record for most games at the tournament, as reported by Pulse.

Le Havre players troll Andre Ayew

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars captain, Ayew returned to France following Ghana's early Africa Cup of Nations exit.

The 34-year-old joined his Le Havre teammates after preparations ahead of their Ligue 1 clash against Lorient on Sunday.

The veteran forward was however given a disappointing welcome, as his teammates teased him for his quick return.

Kudus apologises to Ghanaians after AFCON exit

Sports Brief also reported that Mohammed Kudus penned a heartfelt apology to Ghanaians following the Black Stars' early Africa Cup of Nations elimination.

Ghana were knocked out of the tournament after a last-minute collapse in their final game against Mozambique last Monday.

The four-time African champions, who were on the verge of finishing second in Group B, threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 in injury time.
