Samuel Eto'o was left emotional as Cameroon scored late to beat Gambia and secure a place in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Christian Wooh scored in injury time as the Indomitable Lions went from facing an early AFCON exit to booking a date with Nigeria in the last 16.
Eto'o, who is president of the Cameroon Football Federation, was in the stands watching as things unfolded in a classic AFCON thriller.
In a video shared on social media after the game, the former Barcelona star joined the celebrations in the team's dressing room, before breaking down in tears as he congratulated the players.
The two-time AFCON winner has come under intense pressure over his style of managing the federation, with some members of the association calling for his removal, as reported by The Athletic.
Eto'o assumed leadership of Cameroonian football in 2021 and has supervised the five-time African champions to a third-place finish at the Nations Cup on home soil.
The 42-year-old is hoping to lead his country to their sixth success on the continent in Cote d'Ivoire.
Meanwhile, in a dramatic match on Tuesday night, the Indomitable Lions opened the scoring through Saudi-based Karl Toko Ekambi but Gambia levelled and took the lead through Ablie Jallow and Ebrima Colley. An own goal from James Gomez and a strike from Christian Wooh saw Cameroon secure a hard-fought win.
