  • Percy Tau has disclosed South Africa’s target at AFCON
  • Bafana Bafana are bidding to qualify for the Round of 16
  • South Africa will tackle Tunisia in their final group game

South Africa vice-captain, Percy Tau, has promised fans back home that Bafana Bafana are in Ivory Coast to do something special ahead of their final group game against Tunisia.

Bafana Bafana could seal qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 if they avoid defeat against the Carthage Eagles when both teams meet on Wednesday, January 24.

According to iDiski Times, Tau vowed that South Africa would give their best as the team aims to surpass its previous achievement at its last AFCON appearance in 2021 when they reached the quarter-finals.

“We want to try to do something special here, and that does not change even though we lost the first game – I mean, it’s a tournament; it’s not sometimes about how you start.
“Our message to them is that we’ll always try to give our best and make them proud; we know the AFCON is difficult, but we’re here now giving our best for the country, and hopefully, we’ll finish in a better place [than the last AFCON].”

South Africa lost their opening game 2-0 to Mali before bouncing back against Namibia, securing a 4-0 victory against the Brave Warriors.

Why Bafana must stick with winning team

Meanwhile, Hugo Broos has been urged not to change his winning team ahead of South Africa’s final group game against Tunisia, with a spot in the Round of 16 at stake for Bafana Bafana, SNL24 reports.

Bafana Bafana played with passion and vigour as they thrashed Namibia 4-0 to revive their qualification hopes following a 2-0 opening-day defeat to Mali.

South African fans believe the game against the Carthage Eagles will be a physical one but are backing Broos’ team to get the needed result to ensure qualification to the knockout round.

Ghana trolled by South Africans

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that South Africans had a fun-filled day trolling Ghana as the Black Stars campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations came crashing down on Monday, January 22.

The Black Stars have failed to win a single game in the tournament and will now have to rely on other outcomes to go their way if they are to make it to the knockouts.
