As time marches on and the June international window draws closer, Finidi George's inaugural task as manager of the Super Eagles looms larger.

The 53-year-old is charged with guiding the Nigerian team to success in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

According to a report from OwnGoalNigeria, the former Real Betis forward is already assembling his squad for these crucial fixtures.

The list is expected to include several returning players who have been absent from the Super Eagles setup for various reasons.

With this in mind, and as the June fixtures approach, Sports Brief highlights a selection of players who could be on the cusp of returning to the national team under Finidi's leadership.

Nigeria players who could make Super Eagles return under Finidi

Maduka Okoye

The 24-year-old shot-stopper appears poised for a return to the Super Eagles' setup after a two-year absence following the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

The Udinese goalkeeper has been in fantastic form for his Serie A side as they aim to avoid relegation this season.

A return for Okoye appears plausible, as he is the only shot-stopper touted to be capable of providing relatively stiff competition for Stanley Nwabali in goal.

Terem Moffi

The OGC Nice forward is poised to make a comeback to the Super Eagles after surprisingly missing out on the team during the March international window.

The prolific forward has been in impressive form throughout the current campaign, netting 11 goals in 29 appearances so far this season.

Moffi's versatility up front could offer significant advantages to the Super Eagles setup.

Victor Boniface

The Bayer Leverkusen forward is poised to make his return to the Nigerian team for the first time since January, when he suffered a thigh injury shortly before the AFCON in Ivory Coast.

The marquee forward appears to be regaining his form and has been directly involved in over three goals since coming back from his lengthy injury layoff.

Fans often speculate that a partnership between Boniface and Victor Osimhen upfront for the Super Eagles could prove lethal against any opposition defence. This theory may soon be put to the test when Nigeria faces off against South Africa and the Benin Republic in their upcoming fixtures.

Finidi George prepares shortlist for South Africa showdown

As reported earlier by Sports Brief, Nigeria's coach, Finidi, has compiled a shortlist of players who could represent the Super Eagles during the June international window.

This forthcoming list, set to be unveiled in the coming weeks, marks the 53-year-old's inaugural squad selection as manager of the national team.
