  • Mohamed Salah has left the Egypt national team camp due to injury
  • He returned to Liverpool after taking yesterday's press conference
  • Egyptian legend Ahmed Hassan has hit out at the Premier League star

Mohamed Salah has left the Egypt national team camp at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, much to the annoyance of legendary midfielder Ahmed Hassan.

Salah limped off injured minutes to the end of the first half of the pulsating 2-2 draw, with the scores levelled at 0-0, clutching his thighs in what looked like a hamstring injury.

The Pharaohs faced a must-win game against Cape Verde in the last group match if they wanted to progress to the knockout stage but will do it without their captain.

Per an official statement by Liverpool, their player will return to the club after the game against Cape Verde and will only fly back to Ivory Coast if they make the final.

Hassan hits out at Salah

Former captain and legendary midfielder Ahmed Hassan is not pleased with Salah's decision to leave and return if they reach the finals and makes his thoughts known to MBC Masr via KingFut.

“He is the captain of the team, and just like the coach, the captain’s role is on and off the pitch… He should stay with the team no matter what, even if he had one leg to stand on,” he said.
“He even said himself that it’s the Egyptian national team, not Salah’s national team, and this is true. We have confidence in all the players who are there, and they must fight for the title.”
“Liverpool say that Salah can return to the camp if Egypt get to the final, but why will he return if they actually reach the final, and why will they need him at that point in time?” he queried.

Hassan won four Africa Cup of Nations titles with Egypt, three consecutively between 2006 and 2010 as captain. The former Chelsea star Salah is yet to win the title, losing the last final to Senegal, which makes many doubt his legacy on the continent.
