FootballIt isn't a complete surprise to see the most goals scored by one player in a single Asian Cup happen in 2019. The tournament expanded to 24 participating teams, with 16 nations advancing to the knockout stage.
Almoez Ali took advantage of that extra game in the knockout round, scoring nine goals in total for Qatar during their championship run, per Goal.com.
He helped Qatar sweep Group E, scoring seven goals in their three matches. He netted four goals in the 6-0 win over North Korea and had a brace in the 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
He saved the best for last in the knockout round, scoring one goal each in the semi-finals and finals. He opened the scoring in the 3-1 win over Japan in the championship match, breaking Ali Daei's record in the process with his 12th-minute strike.
