  • Ghana have been drawn in Group B of the tournament

South Africa-based Ghanaian goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, stole the show as the Black Stars arrived in Abidjan for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ofori and his Black Stars teammates touched down in colourful style as the players wore their beautifully woven Kente clothes.

While coming out of the Airport terminal, local cultural dancers met the players in a welcoming gesture.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Ofori replicated the gesture by showing his Adowa dancing Skills. The Adowa dance is a cultural display by the Akans of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Having missed the last Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup in 2022, the experienced shot-stopper is making a return to the national team for a major competition for the first time since 2019.

Ofori, who is one of the senior members of the Black Stars, will fight for the first-choice position with Hibernian Jojo Wollacot and Lawrence Ati-Zigi of St Gallen.

The Black Stars will be based in Abidjan for their Group B games against Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique, per Sky Sports.

The four-time African champions have not won the Nations Cup since 1982, losing two of the last three finals to tournament host, Ivory Coast.

Ghana leaves for AFCON 2023

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Black Stars left Ghana for Abidjan on Wednesday ahead of the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The team led by coach Chris Hughton will be based in the Ivorian capital, where they will play all three group matches.

Ghana wrapped up a two-week training camp in Kumasi on Tuesday before returning to Accra to embark on their AFCON journey.

Kudus trains with the Black Stars

Sports Brief also reported that the Black Stars of Ghana are now at full strength with the arrival of West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus.

The 23-year-old's Africa Cup of Nations preparations was delayed due to a knock he suffered during the game between West Ham and Arsenal last month.

There were fears he might not be available for the Black Stars' opener against Cape Verde on Sunday due to the injury.
