The north Londoners' need for a new striker came to the fore once again on Sunday when they crashed out of the FA Cup.

Sky Sports reports that two late goals in the match, including a Jakub Kiwior own goal, condemned Arsenal to a 2-0 defeat.

In the absence of the injured Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz was started up front to lead the goal hunt, with Eddie Nketiah settling for a place on the bench.

However, the hosts were unable to convert loads of goalscoring chances through the match, with Havertz and Martin Odegaard particularly wasteful.

According to Metro UK, Arsenal have now lost their last three games in all competitions, scoring only once despite managing 61 shots on target.

Arteta responds to striker calls

Their blunt performances in the final third have highlighted the need for them to get a new striker, with a section of fans urging the club to make this a priority.

Speaking on the subject, Arteta hinted the club are unlikely to sign a striker in January despite his misfiring side struggling in front of goal.

"What my job is and what we have to do is improve our players and try to get somewhere with the players we have and get better results," he said.
"One thing is what we need and another is what we can do. What we can do is stick behind those players and make sure we stick behind those players," he added.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney is understood to be top on Arsenal's transfer wishlist should they make a move for another forward.

Arsenal set unwanted record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Arsenal have set an unwanted record following their FA Cup defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Gunners have endured a frustrating run of form and results that has seen them go four matches without a win.
